WHATS ALL THE RACKET
MURAL PROJECT
A commissioned “Tennis Themed Mural” for the city of Henderson Nevada, Summer of 2024.
All the cactuses, desert plants, birds, stars and the sun are made up of elements from Tennis Rackets and Tennis Balls. In addition there are seven tennis balls hidden in plain sight and if you discover which direction this mural is facing (East or West), only then will you will know if it is a Sunrise or Sunset.
Desert plants in this mural include: The Saguaro Cactus, Joshua Tree, Prickly Pear (Nopal Cactus), Sage Bush and Agave.
Mural Size: 54ft x 13ft at the tallest point.
IN THE NIGHT
One of the challenges of this project was the summer heat. The temperature ranged anywhere form 115 to 120 at its peak. This made painting in direct sunlight not possible even though I had to on a few occasions. Painting at night was the only way to ease the pain and even then it was still well over 100 degrees and humid. During the day the wall was too hot to touch and at night was still hot enough to dry the paint almost instantly.
Several unexpected incidents occurred during the multi-day process of this project, including a graffiti coating that couldn’t take the heat and ruined a large portion of the mural causing me to have to re-paint it. Every project comes its challenges, its all part of the process in working through it and getting the job done.
